Forum

for language rights and cultural diversity

Organisation and contacts

Origin

Coming out of the “Study group on the communication and language problem in the EU”(1) the “Forum for language rights and cultural diversity” became a platform for different associations which were interested in language rights, in a common and non-discriminatory planned language and in safeguarding cultural and linguistic diversity, and, which, having not an office or representative in Brussel/Bruxelles, wanted to be represented in the 'structured dialogue' with the European Convention.

(1) The Study group already organized on September 29, 1993 together with the Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung, Brussel/Bruxelles, a colloquium on “The communication and language problem in the European Community - To what extent a ‘planned language’ could contribute to its solution?”
The present symposium can be considered as a
practical follow-up conference aiming to contribute principles and ideas in the field of “Communication rights and duties in the European Union”
